“The future of US development work in the CHT depends on the Integrated Protected Area Co-Management (IPAC) project.” H. E. James F Moriarty, the US Ambassador to Bangladesh commented this to the media during his recent visit to the CHT.

It has also been gathered from a Rangamati based journalist that Moriarty has also told that the US embassy has seriously been perturbed and embarrassed with the opposition given to the IPAC project . An entourage of Moriarty said to a source at Rangamati that the US embassy has finalized all the formalities of a project for the CHT rodent crisis victims. But, it has been suspended because of the fate of the IPAC.

Moriarty had meeting with Santu Larma, the CHT Regional Council Chairman and PCJSS President at Larma's office on 19 Sept, Sunday which lasted for about an hour since 11.15 hrs. Ushatan Talukdar, a CHTRC Member was with Larma while two US embassy officials were with Moriarty.
