Jacob Member abducted from Poli Prangsha today
Jacob Tripura, Union Council Member of Ward No. 9 of Farua Union of Belaichari Upazila in Rangamati ill District Council.
Jacob Tripura, Union Council Member of No. 9 Ward of Farua Union of Rangamati Hill District. He was abducted today at 12 noon from Gamari Bagan, one kilometer before reaching to Poli Prangsha village which falls under Ruma Sadar Union of Bandraban Hill District. Jacob is a resident of Barthali Tripura Para in Rangamati Hill District. His village falls on the way to Reingkhyong Pukur, the largest mountain natural lake of the CHT.
The news of abduction came to light when his brother-in-law, Muktirang Tripura (26) phoned to a relative at Ruma Upazila headquarters, after making his deadly escape from the hands of the miscreants. He could not give better information because of very weak cell phone network. A relative of Jacob tells the CHT Voice a while ago that it is not clear to them who have actually abducted Jacob. He ruled out that it has been done by the DPA (Democratic Party of Arakan), an armed outfit of Myanmar who has served notice to the communities of upper Reingkhyong river area.
This outfit has rejuvenated them after a silence of two years being suppressed by another Myanmarese organisation, ALP (Arakan Liberation Party) and Indian BSF. Both the outfits have been camped in Farba area in Chakma Autonomous District Council in Mizoram. The DPA is nothing but an armed outfit under political cloak which engaged them in massive extortion and robbery. Two years ago BSF and ALP attacked DPA’s camp at Kantali Para in India, bordering Reingkhyong river and rounded up and rehabilitated there and destroyed the camp. After a gap of 2 years the outfit again reorganized them with the joining of a Khumi armed party of Myanmar and started massive extortion in the upper Reingkhyong river area, a source claims. In 2004 Jacob was abducted by DPA and was released after making a payment of 200,000 Taka.
DPA is now very active in Saijom Para, Kengo Chara, Bil Chara, Puratan Tiger Para, Chadari Chara, Shal Chara Marma Para, Barthali Tripura Para and Barthali Marma Para of Reingkhyong river source area under Rangamati Hill District.
