The 5th anniversary of death of human rights activist Nasreen Haque will be observed today by different social and non-governmental organisations.
Women’s platform Naripakkha will mark the occasion through holding a commemoration meeting at its Dhanmondi office in the city.
Nasreen died in an accident when she was hit by a car at the parking space in her apartment block in Dhaka on April 24, 2006.
She had worked as a volunteer with Naripakkha for about 20 years.
She joined the Helen Keller International as policy adviser in 1992 and took over as country director of ActionAid Bangladesh in 2002.
Nasreen had launched a national campaign against acid violence, which led to the formation of the Acid Survivors’ Foundation.
She also trained at the University of California, Berkeley, as a nutritionist, after studying zoology at Purchase College of the State University of New York.
