Pro-accord group takes ex-combatant's life in Baghaichari

Naba Bikash Chakma alias Doctor Novel (45+), a JSS returnee (ex-combatant) under the CHT Accord of 1997 is the latest victim of the Jumma fratricidal conflict. He was killed at his own home at Bhalukchari, Dalubanya in Bongoltoli Union of Baghaichari Upazila in Rangamati Hill District. The place of occurrence is a few kilometers away from Karangatoli Bazar.

After the deposition of arms in 1997 he has all thorough been away from political activities of any political parties; still Doctor Novel, father of 6 daughters could not save his life from his own former comrades. Local reports claim, a group of pro-accord armed group loyal to Santu Larma went to his village and shot at him at around 09.30 am yesterday. Sources claim, local contradiction could be the main reason for the killing.

Police went to the spot yesterday to fetch the dead body for post mortem but his relatives vehemently opposed to hand it over. They told the police that they would neither file a murder case with the police nor give the dead body for postmortem, as it would be dejected in an ugly manner.

Rajib Chakma from Tintilya has been replaced the pro-accord armed group in Marishya (Banghaichari) when commander Niloy (Riten Dewan) was killed there in an ambush laid down by anti-accord group, some 3 months back, a source tells the CHT Voice today.  This source further claims that the anti-accord group today dared go up to Kogoyatuli, about 3 kilometers upstream from the location where Maini river gets divided and the pro-accord group escaped to the Sonamura, former headquarter of ‘Sylhet District’ of Shanti Bahini on the top of the range between Maini valley (Bangladesh) and Sarma valley (India).
